G. B. SHEPHERD(1891 --- 1939)
George B. Shepherd commissioned paintings for Apparel Arts/Esquire and accessory advertisements.
His art signature comes in two forms. The first and most common form is "G. B. Shepherd" in a distinctive cursive script. This script is very difficult to decipher on dark backgrounds on some of his works, making the identification problematic. His identification came to fruition once he used a complementary ink color against the background. The second signature form features "G. B. Sh." as initials. This form can be found in works that feature a variety of color and busy detail where his trademark signature will distract rather than enhance the end result. Other than these details, not much else is known about this artist, which suggests that he may have operated as a freelancer like most gentlemen of his profession. |
